  Only 20% of employees globally are engaged at work. Read that again. Slowly. Twenty percent. In a room of ten people — ten people who showed up this morning, who are sitting at desks or in meetings or on calls right now, who are drawing a salary and occupying a role and contributing, in some functional sense, to the work of the organization — two of them are genuinely, fully, emotionally invested in what they are doing. The other eight are somewhere else. Not physically. They are in the building. They are answering emails and attending meetings and producing outputs that look, from the outside, like engagement.
